Skeleton opens as a visual planning workspace in the browser you are using. There is no account to create before you can begin. Your project data stays in that browser and device by default, while you retain practical ways to export the work when it needs to travel.
No sign-in required to start. Export important work regularly.
The current browser is where the project lives.
Skeleton currently stores project data in the browser’s local storage on the device and browser profile you are using. The product does not require a hosted account or send your work to a Skeleton cloud workspace, because a hosted workspace does not exist yet.
This is a deliberate starting point: a direct path from an idea to a canvas, without an account gate or a mandatory shared environment.
What that gives you

Keep the first pass close
Early thinking can stay in the local browser environment while the map is still private, unfinished, and changing quickly.
Work without a subscription promise
The local-first experience is useful on its own. You do not need to wait for a future cloud plan before you can make a map.
What you can take with you
Keep the project. Share the view.
When you need a copy outside the current browser, Skeleton offers two exports:
- Complete project JSON
- Export the project and its nested skeletons as a portable project file.
- Current canvas PNG
- Export the open canvas as an image that includes the full document bounds.
Use the project file to retain the work in a portable form. Use the image when the visual map is the clearest thing to bring into a document, discussion, or presentation.
Important limits
Local is useful. Local is not a backup service.
The current local-first model has important limits. Skeleton does not yet provide:
- Automatic cloud backup.
- Cross-device sync.
- Sign-in, account recovery, or a hosted project library.
- File import.
- Public sharing, permissions, comments, or live collaboration.
If a project matters, export it regularly. Browser storage can be cleared or become unavailable, and an exported copy is the practical safeguard available today.
Future, not available today
The shared workspace is a future option—not a requirement to begin.
Skeleton is exploring optional cloud and team modes for people who need account-backed sync, cross-device access, controlled sharing, comments, and live collaboration. There are no dates, plans, or prices to announce. The local-first canvas remains the place to start today.
